Blocking Blue Light

As the sun sets, your body begins to shift. Melatonin rises, the nervous system softens, and your begins to repair. But modern light interrupts this process. Screens, LEDs, and overhead lights tell your body it’s still daytime. Blue light late at night keeps your brain alert, delays sleep, and slows recovery. Amber or red light doesn’t do that. It supports your natural rhythm, helping the body unwind the way it’s meant to.

Blue-Blocking Glasses

I’ve tried a few brands, but the ones I trust most are from BlockBlueLight. Their SunDown lenses strike the perfect balance. A warm amber tone that blocks enough blue and green light for night use, but still lets you see comfortably. If you wear prescription glasses, the clip-on amber lenses are excellent. They’re simple, comfortable, and save having to buy another pair of frames.

The red lenses are stronger but too dark for most evening use - you couldn’t safely drive or cook with them. The yellow lenses are lighter and better for daytime or indoor work, but not deep enough to support melatonin production after sunset.

Start wearing your blue blockers about 2–3 hours before bed, or as soon as artificial lights come on. You’ll feel your body slow naturally, your eyes relax, and sleep deepen.

Evening Lighting

The light in your home matters just as much. One bright white globe can undo a full evening of calm. Amber Bulbs are an easy first step. Just replacing the bulb in your bedside lamp or lounge light. Sometimes that single change is enough to transform your nights.

For more flexibility, I love the Multi-Mode Blue Blocking Sleep Lamp. It has three tones: yellow, amber, and red, plus a touch-sensitive dimmer.

  • Yellow is perfect for reading or winding down after dinner.

  • Amber is calm and clear, but you can still see easily.

  • Red is for deep relaxation, breathwork, or those last quiet minutes before sleep.

Portable Lighting

The Amber Beacon Light has become one of my favourites. It’s small, rechargeable, and portable. I always take one with me when traveling, camping, or late-night trips to the bathroom.
